christina, oh christina, surely you're more than such throwaway hypersexualized fluff? rather than a no-holds-barred exploration of female sexuality, this video looks more like a meticulously crafted piece designed to just shock and titillate. and shock and titillate it happily does. but christina shouldn't have needed bisexuality and blasphemy thrown in the mix to attract eyeballs. she's been around for longer than a decade. if she isn't able to command as much attention and hype as she did during her heyday, then that's fine, her legacy still continues. this video disappoints, because the freedom to explore (and exploit) sex and sexuality in pop culture has been so used and abused. maybe i've grown, maybe my senses are no longer excited by the sight of bodies writhing sluttily in a church. i really still do think that the domain of sexuality is rich fodder for artistic expressions. but what we get in the video is purely a miscellaneous jumble of in your face pornography. not that i'm against pornography, but i guess it should remain in the realm of, well, the pornography industry. for a respectable artiste to meaninglessly ride on the semi-porn bandwagon and pass it off as an artistic expression, is just, shallow and sad. random shots of flesh-on-flesh make a statement on female sexuality NOT. for christina, it's just a criminal waste of her power lungs. what in the world is she thinking? |
