managed to squeeze a trip to bangkok, the shopaholic's haven two weeks ago amid a somewhat hectic schedule. not that i'm complaining about workload spilling over to my private time. i genuinely relish the things i'm doing, and i figure i'll miss interning a whole lot after i leave on the 17th of july. to plunge wholeheartedly back into the mundane world of schooling and mugging. no petty hissy fits but no more encounters with busty magicians or OTT getai singers either.

trip to bkk. more eye-opening than the orgy of run-of-the-mill touristy traps and giant malls are the load of dvds i managed to sneak past the customs. an inteprid traveller i am not. i'd rather scour the dvd shelves for hours than watch some village people sell out their culture by artifically prancing around in some cultural village unimaginatively named 'rose garden'. the contrivance of its 'cultural' billing is even harder to bear than the awful dancing. sorry.

mega malls galore. nothing you've not seen to death in orchard road though.

dvds dvds dvds. they've become a highlight of all my overseas trips. to sufficiently liberal countries, that is. tell me it's not ridiculous to have resisted visiting china because its censorship board stifles, butchers and mangles good movies.

shortbus! a neat, little indie movie that would've never seen the light of day here. not surprising for a movie that opens with a scene depicting full-blown auto-fellatio (clue: moses lim could fracture his spine doing it).

how do you make a movie cerebral and sexually graphic at the same time? one that brims with both promiscuity and poignancy? to even wonder about such questions, perhaps reveals an underlying instinctual association of sexuality with crudeness. one that the director attempts to debunk with plenty of contemporary arthouse artistic flair, though probably to much lesser success. still, it is a brash (read: refreshing), in-your-face (read:laden with style and attitude, no less) and almost heartbreaking celebration of the sweet release of sex (read: orgies abound, strictly not for mariam, mok or other phallophobics)and sexuality. not too bad a movie, love that it has been de-eroticized (read: not soft porn cloaked in artistic excesses. there is a place and time for all expressions, only not in the guise of an award winning indie movie).

the theme song, in all its acoustic, folksy glory, is truly uplifting - not unlike the spirit of the movie - sexual and spiritual

for every down-to-earth, guitar strumming indie artist, there is another outlandish and ostentatious one lurking around, looking to offend sensibilties.

recently, lady gaga and her orbital headgear has been the butt of jokes at the office intern table (okay, comprising only of me and py):

idiocracy disguised as avant-garde haute fashion.

i am not offended, just endlessly tickled.

maybe she can try wrapping her entire body with bandages and strut down the walkway in mummified fashion next time round. should be able to pull that one off

conical bras are for pussies. exploding ones are the real deal. wonder if she bought insurance.

how tough is it being lady gaga's stylist?
