some random ramblings/questions. they are spontaneous, and are neither rhetorical nor condescending. i have a sincerely inquisitive mind. the questions are meant to be completely independent of each other, so don't bother drawing the links :)

1) Why is it painless when i bleed like a screwloose tap from the nose but so painful when i sustain this puny looking paper-cut?

2) Why does every single Taiwanese on the telly have such great, supple glowing skin?

3) Actually, why does it seem as if every single taiwanese is so damn good looking? ok. must have something to do with the all too idealistic MVs. they make it seem as if every single human clad in school uniform is a hotshot supermodel. check out the newest fish leong mv.

4) What is the appeal of this apparent ladykiller? every single female creature around me is completely smitten by him!! his pictures are omnipresent in every single blog owned by females!! hahaahahahah. ok i just visited chen yeh's blog, and his omnipresence continues to baffle me.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

5) what is the appeal of goong actually?

6) will there ever be an end to the 'my sassy' series? seems like all potentially sassy characters have been exhausted. what next? my sassy grandmother? or maid? or pet hamster? right. im trying to be funny.

7) why do people watch sad movies/dramas and listen to sad songs all set out with an aim to cry? and when the tears don't flow, why does disappointment sink in? so why do people yearn for tears and sadness?

that's it for the day. i am updating too frequently for my own good.

alybo commented earlier that i'm behaving far too much like an SPB (sarong party boy). LOL. comments like this can only come from the one and only alybo. right. i do agree that my blogskin is adorned with too much of the blonde-haired and fair-skinned. how bout this then?

so i was only half right. those are blooming chrysanthemums floating prettily on a pretentious pool of water, not wilted ones strewn pitifully on the floor. ok. there are indeed period costumes (duh). but no spineless frail woman in the arms of a warrior. only a motherly looking woman sending her warrior son off to some battlefield it seems!

still, i think it's tastefully done. oriental (some say cheena) 就 oriental(cheena)到底!够爽快! hahaha

the lagger of a lzt just found out about the RJC self-confessed uncaring elite VS 40 YO victim of globalization brouhaha this morning. i actually took one hour off global warming to read up about it!

and so i sifted through the truckloads of professional bloggers' nasty (some enlightening) comments and insights. heavy-hearted entries about the 'stratification of the sg society' and what not. very true. i'm not nearly as deep - the most jarring thing that came across when i first saw the writeup (with photo of uncaring elite attached) was that of "omg she looks like ur typical snobbish, stuck up gep elite. eew."

everybody holds some form of disdain towards the gep 'elites'. me inclusive. it could be the pride, some subtle jealousy perhaps. i refuse to put them on pedestals, even though they are admittedly, very smart. but then again on second thoughts it's all very relative. the rjc humanities scholars could be viewed by the rjc general population as snobbish elites of a different league. we on the other hand, view everyone in rjc and hci as elites. then again someone from a neighbourhood jc might think tjcians are too part of the elitist top 5 jc community. not forgetting how people in polys might feel about jcs. actually, my point being, perhaps our disdain stems from our refusal to swallow our pride; our refusal to admit that we might be intellectually incapable of accomplishing what they can. at least i think that applies for me. too headstrong. when someone says 'rjc', i'm likelier to go 'bweagh' then 'wahhh'.

but still i secretly snigger about the uncaring elite's plight. she might not be entirely in the wrong, but it should humble and ground her a little. poor thing though, got embroiled in a national controversy a week before As.

and i watched survivor cooks island. hmm. couple of likeable characters. though it's quite apparent the producers are consciously upping the eye candy quotient. let's just hope they're not airheads.

oh, and i'm gonna miss an inconvenient truth too. bah. to think that i was once an environmental activist too. hahaha. noble huh? i wonder how grant and yingshun and uma are doing now.

sph writing test today. in absolute terms, completing the paper wasn't exactly the most insurmountable task on planet earth. but in relative terms, i know that competition is just disgustingly stiff. they're like, looking for the cream of the cream of the cream of the cream of the cream of the cream of the cream of the cream of the freakin crop. everyone hails from some respectable background. everyone goes there, enters the claustrophobic room, lifts up their pens and lets their thoughts flow like there's no tomorrow. you occasionally raise your head, look around, disturbing silence aside, everyone seems like they're deeply obsessed with trying to stand out amongst the hundreds of zealous applicants. nothing wrong or particularly strange about that though.

not going to get deeply troubled over the outcome of this. too many variables. if i get through, great. if i don't, i'll sulk a little, then tell myself...too bad. go read more chinese newspapers and chinese idioms and listen less to christina aguilera then try again next time. but i've kinda set heart on becoming a chinese journalist (who doesn't wanna study chinese in uni, though). it's just about all i wanna become. every other career seems like a painful 9-5 drag. but then again, too many variables in life. for all you know i might suddenly wanna go be an autopsist or crime scene cleanup guy who mops away blood and guts for a living. after all, i once said i wanted to become a lawyer (cues dropping of jaw and lots of sniggering)

just adore the video too much.

ju hua tai mv's out. lots of footage from the curse of the golden flower movie. go check it out.

it's just another one of those days when you feel like your existence is pretty much pointless. today, it's because i realized i'll be missing truckloads of movies in the name of the As - sinking of japan and severance, just to name a few. and also because i STILL haven't been to the gargantuan mall that is vivocity. and looking at the people on TAR merrily globetrot away only serves to make things doubly bitter. omg, they went to kuwait this week?! kuwait where the subtropical high pressure cells are, you know! no, i mean, kuwait where the people are cloaked in this head-to-toe veil under the sweltering heat, you know! but whatever it is, TAR just amazes me. i swear, the destinations in this season are the best! and less-travelled! ulaanbator in mongolia, then ha long bay in vietnam, then kuwait city, then madagascar and mauritus! omg! mauritius where the enclave resorts all are! no i mean, mauritius, when the breathtaking coral reefs and atolls all are! so no matter how repulsive the teams may be, the destinations make up for everything. right now i'm just waiting for season 17 to bring the teams to mogadishu in somalia (and get killed by some militant group). right. enough of my incoherent and unparagraphed melodrama. i need to go acknowledge the reality of my pointless existence. writing test tomorrow. may the force of fang wen shan be with me.

world premiere of hurt:

this is so much of a respite from your usual trashy women+bling rnb video out there. the whole market is just too saturated with those garbage. but anyway, this one's co-directed by christina and flora sigismondi (fighter). lots of dark, circus themed imageries going on in there. definitely a zillion times better than ANOM! why, the circus in the video seems to conjure this strangely depressing feel. this is the first time circuses ever come across as being dark and sombre to me. brilliant.

i'm really not being biased here. for how often do you come across videos that do not involve drunken guys and promiscuous girls dancing dirrtily on a dancefloor? like one in every five hundred videos. sigh, and even nelly f. can sell herself out.

so go on, give it a try, press the play button!

photos. unglam as they always should be.
warning: this entry will likely incur the wraths of vainpots in 34/05. if you've always had this affinity with flawless photoshop-enhanced/digitally blurred photos, chances are that you'll find this post extremely demeaning. so like for example, if you happen to be nicole loy in a pretty friendster camwhoring mood, don't scroll down. cos this is a blog entry by lzt, an avid worshipper of everything unglam. in the next 5 minutes you will encounter things as morbid as triple-chins and as disturbing as alyssa perched on a tree (i'm kidding). so make sure you harbour no expectations of anything prim, proper or decent before reading on.

so it's graduation day today. for me, there were no tears, only facial muscles forcefully twitched.

and for ho khim rong, secret triple chin finally exposed.

HA! okok. i have to temporarily snap out of my dramatic writing style to seek my fellow classmates' magnanimous forgivness for displaying whatever rubbish you have seen and are about to see. sorry lah hahaha. it's actually meant to be a touching tribute packaged like an unglam photofest. (if you believe me). so please don't curse that karma will get even with me come novemeber 2 ya?

ho khim rong rocks because she doesn't mind looking hideous for the camera. :) pictures like that are a dime a dozen.

the same cannot be said for nico loi - pictures like that are golden moments - like needles in the haystack - only when you're lucky enough to press the snap button at the very moment she opens her mouth to tell you to not take ugly photos of her. hahaha.

speaking of mouth opening...

wouldn't an extended tongue and an accompanying 'acgacgacacg' lullaby have been perfect?

then there is the one and only alybo, who quickly reverted back to her giggly and flamboyant (lol) self after the short-lived composure she maintained when asking her 68-pointer crush for an autograph, i mean, photograph.

zt: "you're putting him on a pedestal and boosting his ego!"
nico: "you make him seem as if he is some celebrity!"
alybo: (blissfully) "aww, he deserves it."

i wish i could put up that portrait of happiness. if you don't mind sending it to me...

then there is sunbear weiroo:

was it the constipation? ha.

and grouchy bereals: (yes, the order of appearance is intentional)

quek ser fwee, your tidy fringe will never make it here..

and finally, nanzai's childhood ambition of becoming poepoye realized! looks like (s)he's been scrimping on the spinach though:

and yay, a more decent candid shot at last! nice effect

and yes i'm done. wth, i just spent 1 hr on these! im sorry my role of the government for neglecting you.

well, this really is a tribute to 34/05, if you're willing to look past the superficial hideousness. thanks for being such wonderful classmates. :D

p.s. if you do not see your pic here, fret not, your significance to my life has not been downplayed. it's just that you probably insisted on looking pretty. which i can't stand. pretty/photoshopped/airbrushed photos? why do they even exist huh??! photos should only serve the sole purpose of being ugly! so there.

i love reality tv. cos it's simply put, mindless entertainment. it's mindless entertainment cos it exploits the participants' emotions. and the tv channels have every right to do so cos' the participants all do so willingly in the name of glittery cash. and i derive a guilty high from seeing dumb people getting humiliated on tv. (when these people are blondes, it's double the fun)hahaha.

caught this reality tv show called my big fat obnoxious boss this afternoon. boy, was it totally amusing! it's somewhat a mean parody of the apprentice. and the entire hoax is just so complex, so mindboggling, so foolproof, so darn fun. its contestants were reduced to mascots promoting cyanide to kids, doing stupid, cheapthrillish things like shooting tampons or something like that. it almost feels like this show was made for me. i love cheapthrills. nothing puts me on a high more effectively than deluded businessmen wannabes getting peanut shells thrown on their faces during a board meeting.

read if you're interested:

american reality tv rocks my black 'mango' ankle socks ok. there's of course, the usuals - survivor, TAR which never seem to grow weary despite being 10-11 seasons old. and then there are the novel, relatively unknown ones. like this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playing_It_Straight

LMAO. i burst out into laughter after reading the description of the game. it's just utterly absurd. but absurdly entertaining that is. my guess is that there's indeed nothing 'real' on this 'reality gameshow' - like c'mon, im sure the game could be manipulated in some way - but the idea is so novel (though kinky). and damn funny.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Big_Fat_Obnoxious_Fiance

another super funny reality tv show, which i actually watched. on ch5 like, one year back. SUPER FUNNY, i tell you. but i figure nobody's gonna understand.

someone tell me why all singapore's gotta offer is something as lame as........... EYE FOR A GUY?!?!? ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?! and oh, ren jian ren ai too. (?!?!?!)

and ju hua tai is starting to grow on me.
my favourite line goes like this:

徒留我孤单在湖面成双

beautiful. now i know why my love for song cis has never existed. simply cos lao peng doesn't sing it to me in mumbly slurrish rnb style.

i can picture the MV for this song already. period costumes + an abundance of wilted chrysanthemum strewn fancifully on the floor + some frail, daiyu looking, shattered and spineless female lead lying in the arms of some warrior. hahaha.

i actually rewatched jolin's mr q mv on youtube yesterday. 10 years ago, i would've loved it. but now, being the cynical 18 year old that i am, i can no longer tolerate the flashy neon coloured dancefloor and bowling pin dancer formation anymore. it's just straight out of a how-to-make-a-chic-mv book by the then 18-y.o britney spears. HAHAHA. sorry la. i know im being too cynical for my own good. but it's fun commenting on frivolous things like that. it destresses, you see.

and i've decided! that i'll not go for prom should i be unable to get the right clothes and right hairstyle in time! you see, time is super tight. i just might end on 27th, then jet off on 29th, come back on the 4th, and ta-dah! prom is on the 6th! unless i sacrifice some time during my 10 day break. don't tell me 1 out of 10 days is peanuts. that's assuming i do not need to prepare at all for the taiwan trip. haha. why the impulse decision to chup prom, lzt?...

slated to burn in military hell from 15 december onwards. it's ok. i haven't freaked a single bit ever since i laid my hands on the deceptively cutey pink letter. i am determined to enter in one piece and leave in one piece. hopefully a more chiselled piece that is. but really, i just ask for the bare essentials. that is, for the whichever macho sergeants to possess a working brain besides the brawns, to remember to have some compassion admidst the authoritarian orders. and for time to pass super quickly, of course.

it isn't that bad. at least it isn't like, 3 december or something. at least i get one extra week or so to prep myself up should i decide to retain, after all the ups and downs and hoos and haas, that darn 9079/00 thing. yes, i'm the most indecisive human being that ever existed on earth.

i see welfare economics come to life across the bedok reservoir. arghhhhhh.

final two formal schooling day in TJ. it's gonna be kinda poignant. two years gone in a flash. hopefully the next two will whiz by quickly too.

i like our econs tutors. cos even though i wrote complete greek for my econs s essays (which clearly points towards a case of acute knowledge deficiency, the greatest sin any econs s student can have), they're still kind enough to give constructive criticisms. not chunks of disparaging comments and red pen graffiti that gp tutors indulge themselves in.

had a great laugh during gp essay post-mortem yesterday. and then it suddenly dawned upon me that it almost seems as though they were happily, and guiltlessly milking the laughs out of the unintentional mistakes of weaker students. sure, they'd tell you that learning points can be picked up from these true-life mistakes. you laugh and you remember and so you'll never commit them in the As... but come to think of it, how educational is the act of displaying a whole list of bizzare spelling errors that probably, only one or two in a million commit? i mean, the likes of hurricane katherine, larvae and magnum, well they're ridiculously funny, but how representative are these of our actual abilities? more like anomalies, curiosities.

well econs tutors don't do that for sure. cos they know better than to think that humiliation motivates. and that's why they earn my respect. so it's not just the thousands of spoonfed answer plans that we happily gobble up. though that's an added bonus :)

little pink letter with "on government service" intimidatingly labelled on it, i continue to anticipate your arrival.

6 hours of national income determination renders thoughts incoherent:

ONE
lai yexian just received his NS letter shock today. deepest condolences. everyone out there, you can either a)be extra devout for the coming week and help me pray for an april enlistment miracle or b)prepare an encouragement/mockery/condolence speech lest i receive that sacred letter within the next few days or so. by the way, you are more likely to see your efforts pay off by adopting the latter approach. :)

TWO
how inethical is the act of prying into the lives and thoughts and blogspaces of others? you see, it's all a matter of give and take - you rant and ramble, heal yourself with word therapy, seek to shape a truer and more favourable public perception for yourself... and therefore also expose your life to the scrutiny of random blog-hoppers eager to satisfy their innate curiosity. well, i just feel that whining on and on about privacy intrusion is dumb and uncalled for - why can't you not publish your post or better still, keep a padlocked diary then?

THREE
life is good now. and i ought to appreciate it a whole lot more than how i do right now. before conscription renders my world deviod of internet, TV, magazines, movies, kboxing, hi-fi sets..(perhaps more succintly, a life) in two months time. i've got a great family, great friends, great school, great bed, great cable subscription, great mp3 player, great handphone right now. maybe As spoils things a little, but i try to tell myself to cherish mugging before i'm forced to suddenly not mug for the next two years after mugging for 15 consecutive years. maybe i'll get withdrawal symptoms. we'll see.

FOUR
this is just a random thought that popped up in my mind a while ago. i don't really feel strongly for it, but i figure it's just kinda peculiar.

has anyone else realized that jc tutors simply refuse to acknowledge the word 'memorize'?(except when mentioning it in a negative light) i mean, yes yes yes, we-cannot-just-memorize-chunks-of-words-straight-from-the-notes-because-it-is-totally-retarded-and-juvenile, but surely, even after reorganizing, note-making, and independent research, we still have to memorize before we can apply? it's not even a bad thing, why the taboo markers? hahaha. this is kinda funny. in econs, they prefer to call it knowledge and comprehension. how elegant sounding. ms j prefers the term 'remember', while lep tutors sink deepest into denial by reminding us of the need to 'fen xi' a cha guan question. is it that hard to pronounce, just three syllabuses. LOL. and another thing! i am always perplexed when tutors keep telling us about the imperative need to analyse a question. i mean, i don't know lah, isn't it instinctive that when they throw you a question, you look at it, try to understand what it means, then proceed to backtrack material learnt that is related, link em up, and write them down? isn't that already analysing? well, the word analyse just doesn't mean anything to me la.

FIVE
the amazing race 10 is on! it's got such an explosive mix of interesting characters. the stupid blonde cheerleaders ("Do muslims believe in buddha?"), the ego-as-pumped-up-as-muscles himbos, the amputee, the fiesty black single mommas (why are single mums always black???)and the butt-shaking boyfriends. it's all on youtube. truly the greatest invention of the millenium.

SIX
people in christina's livedaily forum are discussing about jessica simpson's horrible pronounciation. it's freakin funny!! in that lame public affair song, listen closely to the chorus and you find that she sings "all the camels come out for a public affair.." for those who get it, isn't it so superduper funny?!??!! she really sings CAMELS! there really isn't the r in the camera!!!! so damn hilarious.

alright. end of incoherent thoughts. is it of any wonder why i got 3/8 for AQ?

one parent's signature away from eleven extra days of freedom. a not-so-pretty 'w' (withdrawn) mark on the results slip in exchange for the comfort in the knowledge that no 'u's are ever gonna taint my hopefully pretty cert.

someone tell me that i'm not sacrificing long term gains just to avoid short term pains.

great, it even rhymes. learnt that from ms wong. ("the long term gains from free trade > short term pains from free trade...")

but seriously, questions that require me to evaluate the golden rules of public finance seem to only serve the sole purpose of devastating my confidence. it's never too good to have confidence that exceeds one's actual ability anyway. what's so awesome about 11 preparation days when one doesn't know how to prepare in the first place? it's double the pain.

farewell, all you famous economists with weird surnames! it's been an eye-opener. Galbraith, Bhaghati, Schumpeter and three bimbotic scandals that lasted through the year.. what more can i ask for? haha.

last 10 days of school. then 14 days of study break.

oh well. i never thought i'd feel this way, but i think i'll miss TJ.

i've never been one who indulges in nostalgia or sentimentalizes too much, which explains why i've never bothered to make a trip back to ahs ever since i left it back in 2004. but tj's been different. for things as insignificant as the canteen layout with the chillout inclined rattan chairs, (i know it has bugs...but talk about the perks of being a guy) as geeky as the comfortable lecture-tutorial style learning regime. as cheenaishly fun as the saobaotic 34/05 and CCC.

TJ's been a great experience, that has proved itself to be a much much more fulfilling journey than the 4 years i had in AHS - for the better tutors who bother enough to not restrict informal interaction to that of a lame, unengaging and mandated pastoral care lesson (think ms lgl...-__-), for the dearth of two whole classes of china scholars who score 98 for maths, 99 for sciences and 100 for clit.. all aimed at banishing you into the vicious cycle of inferiority, well, and the list goes on..

i've always wondered about one of the most common gripes people have about TJ (OM and LKK buildings aside) - ugly slime green uniform. is it really that ugly? ok maybe it isn't the most sajcish uniform around, but at least it's comfy. wait till u see queensway sec's sch uni. i almost couldn't believe my eyes when i saw it on STOMP. the skirts are BRIGHT P-U-R-P-L-E. omg. someone tell them it makes them look like giant brinjals. (fine, not funny) but seriously, it's Hideous with the capital H:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

aren't you glad you're in slime green now?

fine, i know of people who actually think that purple skirts are unique and exquisite. beauty is in the eye of the beholder then.

so i digressed. yes, i was trying to say that im glad i came to TJ. not snobbish *JC where people who speak chinese are looked down upon like strange martians. ("sorry, we don't speak chinese here" - gosh. all that snobbish attitude and tragic ignorance you thought you'd only see in american high school chick-flicks) not perfectly competitive **I, where HLM notes are 100% confidential (CANNOT BE LEAKED OR ELSE TEACHER WILL BE ANGRY!). the prominent absence of **I answer plans from all econs exam papers says it all. (please la, share answer plans only what! rest assured the precious students won't be robbed of the As just because diligent students from other colleges glanced at it - such selfish pokers - the questions aren't that well set anyway?!)

yes, before badmouthing gets out of hand, my point is that whilst we aren't exactly at the pinnacle in terms of academic results, we've at least got a touch of humanity in our college culture. no hiding of notes from other colleges. no lecturer storming in and humiliating the entire biology cohort for not aceing the exams when moderation has rendered the possibility of the entire cohort getting good grades void in the first place. such stupidity. (that is if the horror stories as told by lgf aren't exaggerated. lol. i hope not.)

and so i ended up with another c5 for GP. fine, my essay wasn't exactly of sean calibre. but did the marker (mdm aileen lim) needed to scribble ALL OVER my script like as if it was a wall for graffiti art?!? my whole script had more red lines drawn all over, in various directions, than there were red words. and she practically peppered my whole script with rude exclamations like as if i was an idiot. "Huh?!" "So can control?! cannot control?!?" "Examples, not theory!!" "Too Long!!" "Unfortunately, the length is not enough to disguise your lack of content". "Really?!" "Read up!!!" and on poo yee's script, "OBVIOUS."

i think she totally deserved the void silence she received when she went up on stage during national day celebrations to receive her birthday cake, song, whatever. there were thunderous applauses for every other teacher. but not her. and things happen for a reason.

give credit when it's due like how you so effortlessly do it in the criticisms department?

really wasn't pissed at my marks. i knew my essay was kinda off. just at her scornful, belittling marking style. like as if she was all out to demoralize a geog student who thought he had what it takes to handle a natural disaster question.

and i'm still more inclined to believe that she's more of an anomaly.

my 1 week's up. time to draw up something constructive.
