to all who tagged, i didn't evaporate from the face of the blogosphere by choice. i've been imprisoned in the faraway island for 23 out of the past 26 days, you see.

nothing too groundbreaking has unfolded in the life of this disgruntled soldier throughout the past month anyway (that is if you count out things like being condescended everyday and living with mere acquaintances 24/7 - stuffs that would have been major causes of grievances months ago, but i have since grown numb to)

it's been a month and a half in there, and surely even the strongest person eventually gets tired of pretending to be never vulnerable? is everyone too caught up in upholding the a-soldier-should-never-be-a-wimp image, or am i the only sorry figure left still whining about how military life is strangling me after six weeks?
i may tolerate, but will never be able to accept this shit with an open heart and mind. and i am unapologetic for that. you know what friends? i did a reality check and decided that i hate this life.

cos it acquiants me with people from all walks of life but detaches me from other friends i used to be close with.
cos it makes me appreciate little luxuries of life at the price of me losing all of that first. not that i took them for granted in the first place.
cos it teaches me hands on technical know-how at the expense of retarding my knowledge of everything else that's happening in the world. i know my sph scholarship is screwed.

i really didn't set out to write such a negative post. the thoughts just flow.

i want to wear my dirty green uniform so bad.

this voice makes me feel a little better.

so it's 2007 already. time indeed flies, but only in retrospect. if not, why do weekdays nowadays feel like they last 48 hours each? oh yes, you guessed right. today's the much-dreaded book-in day. sucks balls.

i had a great 2006. the many moments that defined 2006 for me were almost too good to be true. great family, great friends, great class, great cca, great taipei trip at the end of the year. the only grimace being that any form of growth beyond the academic sphere has been pretty much stunted. still, i can't possibly be whining too much if that is the price to be paid for the pretty decent grades i have been getting thus far. life is about give-and-take, or so they say. am appreciative for that.

2006 was certainly a smooth sailing year for me, or rather, the first eleven-twelth of it was. these days when i feel like a random piece of cat poo on the streets is worthier than me in the prison barracks they call tekong, i try steeling myself against negativity by telling myself that well, perhaps a higher being wants me to experience the rough side of life a little, having been rolling in a bed of roses for the past 2 years.

if 2005 was a boom, and 2006 was a peak, then i can only hope that the trough of a 2007 will be a cushioned and short-lived one. this is realism, not pessimism.

meanwhile it's back to island life for the next week or so, where anything and everything will be backed up by the two all-encompassing golden core values called regimentation and discipline. will try to have fun.

by the way, the first thing i'll grab off the HMV shelves after i get my paycheck has gotta be gwen stefani's the sweet escape. i love the way she plays the eccentricity card to her advantage. first it was her obsession with the gothic harajuku girls, and now she goes yodelling like she's all out to butcher 'the sound of music'. whatever, she's the only person that can make stupid lyrics written by 14 year old girls sound sophisticated.

check out one of her most ridiculous singles to date, wind it up:

this meaningless material is like tonnes better than some other proud-to-be-fairytale-like shit you hear elsewhere. a song devoid of substance over a song devoid of sincerity, anytime. oh, sorry for that cynical outburst. i accidentally saw celeste chong's latest video, you see.

wah. she's the best man. salutes.

till then.
