been loving work thus far. save for an insecure, embittered vermin wreaking havoc on my social life. petty politics is nothing groundbreaking in an office environment teeming with acid-tongued journalists, you could argue, yet it was still the one last thing i could have seen coming. reason? i usually get along fine with people. i do not unnecessarily disparage, criticize or harp on the nitty-gritties of not being able to get off work punctually, having the uploading system die mid-assignment et al. especially in the context of a work environment. i know better. right now, i'm really do think of myself as a victim of petty circumstances. my conscience remains as clear as can be.

been intently following the aware saga - through its initial stages of veiled secrecy to the overtly dramatic, messed-up train wreck of conflicting ideologies that it is now. as much as controversy-fanning sensationalism could have been derived from simplifying it to a conservative-old-hag vs liberal-forward-thinkers death match, i still constantly remind myself that the heart of the issue, the root of the old guard's seething anger - really stems from the kind of underhanded stealth employed in the hijack operation. and then, they go on to claim with a straight face, the righteousness of the democratic process, with collective feigned igorance of the meticulous manipulation that must have gone into the blatantly pre-mediated takeover.

the new issues they wanted to champion could have been as frivolous and innocent as penguin rights - what truly is demeaning is the act of orchestration and the subsequent attempts at downplaying the gracelessness of it all.

i hate it when people go on tirades where they spew grandiloquent ambitions and bombastic sentences absolutely devoid of real meaning. to go on and on about "wanting to further women's rights" and "build upon the foundations of our predecessors" is nothing but bullcrap circumventing the issue that has sparked much ire and debate. and then, light was finally shed, but not without the presence of one 'feminist mentor', in all her matronly, matriarchal glory. i see where elder thio is coming from, and do acknowledge the firm conviction behind her cause, yet i cannot hide my utter shock when she goes on to make politically-incorrect statements blatantly indicative of her sheer stupidity. this particular one takes the cake: "AWARE has become too focused on promoting lesbianism (nervously reaches out for glass of water and sips it), and homosexuality, which is a man's problem."

it is one thing to bear irrational prejudices, which many of us do, while being clearly aware of its unjustifiable nature. everyone is entitled to their own prejudices, i always say. yet it clearly is another issue when people air their silly grievances with such stoic and stupid belief in its unshakable righteousness. i cannot stand teenage girls who paste paper hearts on their cheeks. but i don't pretend to acknowledge it as anything more than bias intolerance and superficial mockery. these people, however, are so entrenched in their one sided, self-affirmed moral righteousness to allow themselves any leeway to see for themselves the bigger picture.

where can the new AWARE go from now, with credibility all but tarnished, and reputation irrevocably tainted by the never-ending flood of accusations and allegations? was the takeover dreamt out of sheer naiviety?

no, it is not a crime to be christian. in fact, you could have championed it and made clear the evangelical motives, in the comfort of your own women's organization. what sparks furore, is the sneakiness that inevitably festers in the new exco, what with its christian majority and the impossible coincidence of them coming from the same church. it would be utterly gullible, to expect the already cynical public to not smell a fish, and buy wholeheartedly into the 'we're completely secular' talk.

am looking forward to more drama and catfight gold at the EGM.

equally worthy of anticipation is sodagreen's new album, after a rather long hiatus. only that gone with the wind are fashion inhibitions and also, a general awareness of aesthetic common sense.

i think i still prefer them sans flourescent pink OTT get-ups.

miss the stripped down vulnerability. could have been a facade, but i'd pick fragility over flamboyance any day.
