a short one before i grudgingly go on another disappearing act for the next week and a half or so.

at the expense of making this sound all too technical and political, here are a few lessons on interpersonal relationships that being in the army has taught me thus far:

be nice though not defenceless
display vulnerability not haplessness
never be selfish, but do not pride yourself by selflessness either

it is indeed instinctive human nature for us to remember all the ugly things people do in the persuit of personal welfare, and all too easy for us to let the good-natured deeds that they've done conveniently slip off our minds.

it is through one of my platoonmate's current state of alienation that i officially conclude that selfishness is one trait horribly frowned upon in the context of the military environment. and that, when paired with an acute inability to communicate or self-defend effectively, is a surefire combination for successful social suicide.
everytime you tell yourself to overlook the lack of eloquence to for once, see what's beneath, you're haunted with visions of him in his tongue tied, stuttering, and therefore motive-driven glory. well, it indeed is very hard to cover loss grounds once the element of trust is taken away. and all it takes is just one untimely, unfortunate and ugly exposure. ugly exposure like, choosing the lightest loads to carry in the harsh outdoors. why don't people give second chances? reality check, lesson number four, well, there are no second chances.

so i realize ns has just served up another remotely meaningful purpose - that is to tell you the importance of managing relationships in a tactful yet not overly reticent, thought-over yet not contrived or artificial manner.

大家最喜欢的终究是最懂得真情流露的人。

caught ghosts, poltergay and hairspray over the weekend.

while poltergay turned out to be painfully mediocre, ghosts and hairspray were delightfully entertaining in completely different ways.

this is a movie that really challenges you to put down your comfortably-held prejudices to for once, rationalize your sentiments towards migrant workers and students, be they of well, Chinese or Bangladeshi descent. for instance, it makes you think if you should abhor china prostitutes (that are according to one of my platoonmate, worth $20 per night these days) for their wretched misdeeds or empathize them for the wretched paths they have taken only because life has no other choices to offer. actually, when faced with the moral dilemma of having to choose between one's dignity and livelihood, dignity really becomes a more subjective and transient concept. so, do you look at the tongue-curled community any differently now? i think i do, at least a wee bit.

on the other hand, hairspray was, in typical teenage girl fashion, like, fun! it was loud, catchy, uplifting, and i really did (to my own horror) find myself grinning like mad when zac efron kissed nikki blonsky, for instance. i know, it's embarrassing. and amanda bynes is ever as endearing. rushed to get the she's the man vcd right after i saw amanda bynes bouncing to the hairspray beat during the closing credits. you can't stop the beat!

ratatouille tomorrow!

right. and as i draw myself back to reality, it is with a heavy heart that i inform you guys that i will be departing for bad ol' tekong this coming monday, not to relieve bullshitty, i mean, bittersweet memories of that bmt stint, but to reinstate my utter abhorrance towards the confines of that island through a SEVEN DAYS SIX NIGHTS fieldcamp at good ol' san yong kong. it's every san yong kong sandfly's orgasmic fantasy come true.

will be back, but not without gazillions of new bitemarks, zits, blisters and broken toenails.

see ya.
