ok this is for hazel and anyone else slightly interested in back to basics:

the 4 standout b2b tracks:
(in order of addictiveness)

Hurt - epic ballad, minor keys aplenty (i think). biggest ballad since i turn to you, imo. enough said already anyway!

Candyman - upbeat throwback song, three part girly harmonies, naughty lyrics not to be taken too seriously ("he's a one stop shop, makes my cherry pop, he's a sweet-talkin sugar coated candyman") great deal of fun.

Save Me From Myself - the only song that does not capitalize on her powerhouse vocals. great deal of restrainment instead that hits all the right spots. just some gently strummed guitar chords to complement that beautiful sense of vulnerability. this is totally addictive in a nonconventional way. u have to hear it to know what im talking abt. ("don't ask me why i love you, it's obvious your tenderness is what i need to make me, a better woman to myself")

Understand - this is supposed to be a throwback to the 20s. i can't explain why this is so alluring. im just short of the technical vocabulary. just listen. lol.

and jessica simpson has a new album out. i guess she's playin around with the throwback element as well. though only tracing back to a much recent musical era ----- 90s pop fluff. eew. and i shan't even begin commenting about stars are blind.

right. desertification time.
